Patient voices take a larger role in sodium reformulation advocacy
Patient advocates are taking a more active role in shaping public conversations on sodium reduction following the Iwas Alat, Iwas Sakit (IAIS) Media Training and Content Creation Workshop held on October 6, 2026.
Organized for members of the Patient CARE Network (Patients and Communities Advocating for the Reduction of Excess Sodium), the workshop equipped participants with practical skills in media engagement, storytelling, and content creation.
Through media interview simulations and reel-making exercises, advocates learned how to communicate their lived experiences more effectively and raise awareness on the links between excessive sodium consumption and diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease.
The training also introduced strategies for public speaking, community engagement, and countering misinformation on sodium reduction. By the end of the workshop, participants were better prepared to represent the Patient CARE Network and champion sodium reformulation advocacy in media events and public-facing activities.
